Michelle Culley, therapeutic recreation intern, engages with children at the center while helping them interact with one another. She leads the preschool and homeschool activities on Wednesdays and leads story time at Barnes and Noble every other Monday. Other than the responsibilities at the center, Michelle has taken the initiative to spread the word about ASK. She advocates for the organization and interacts with the parents and families by answering any questions they may have and identifies with the kids to help understand how they see the world.
Michelle is a recreation sports management major with a concentration in therapeutic recreation. After receiving an email from the counseling department about ASK seeking interns, she realized that this was the place she wanted to fulfill her first practicum due to all of the potential for growth.
Michelle is 21 years old from the small town of Paris, TN, which interestingly enough, has its own Eiffel Tower. She loves this internship because she is able to see the full cycle of families going through the struggle of what most people consider “normal life”, and then succeed and grow to master real life experiences to engage in activities like “typical” families.
